Armed Thieves Steal Canada Goose Jacket from Bicyclist in Daylight Robbery

A group of armed thieves targeted a bicyclist in Northwest D.C., stealing his Canada Goose jacket in broad daylight. The incident occurred on Belt Street NW on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when a car blocked the cyclist’s path, and three suspects, one armed with a gun, quickly stole the expensive winter coat before driving off. D.C. police are searching for a white 2013 Hyundai Sonata with Maryland tags.

This daylight theft follows a pattern of criminals targeting individuals wearing Canada Goose jackets, known for their high price tags, exceeding $1,000. The thefts have been occurring since the previous winter, with several incidents reported in different areas of Northwest D.C. In a 48-hour period in late November, there were three robberies and an attempted robbery involving these coveted jackets.

Thieves have shown audacity by committing such crimes in various locations, including school zones, as seen in this recent incident around 3:45 in the afternoon. The stolen Canada Goose coats are suspected to be resold online.

Overall, Washington, D.C., has witnessed a 68% increase in robberies compared to the same period the previous year, according to data from the Metropolitan Police Department. The incidents highlight a growing trend of criminals targeting individuals wearing high-end winter apparel.
