Caitlin Clark wasn't the only women's basketball player making history last night

Caitlin Clark wasn’t the only person who broke women’s basketball records last night. The Iowa Hawkeyes star scored 49 points as she overtook the record for most points in NCAA women’s basketball history. But another record fell, too.

Division II hooper Lauryn Taylor from Francis Marion University had 44 rebounds in their win against North Greenville last night, the most rebounds recorded at any level in NCAA women’s basketball history.

The previous Division II record was 36, set in 1995 by Christine DeSaine, who played for West Virginia Tech. Taylor surpassed the DI record of 40, set in 1983 by Deborah Temple of Delta State, as well as the DIII mark of 38.

Thirty of Taylor’s boards were on the defensive end.

In addition to setting the record, Taylor had a new career high with 34 points, and had her 18th double-double of the season. She leads the NCAA at the Division II level with 13.6 rebounds per game.

In addition to breaking the record, Taylor moves up the record books for Francis Marion, overtaking ninth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,603 total points. She is also seventh on the career rebounding list for the school, with 948.
