Drake London injury update: USC receiver carted off field vs. Arizona with leg issue

USC receiver Drake London, one of the best receivers in the country, was carted off the field at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on Saturday with an apparent leg injury.

It’s uncertain what happened on the play, but reports from the game say he was pointing at his Achilles tendon when getting tended to by trainers. The injury occured on a 6-yard touchdown reception that gave the Trojans a 28-7 lead over Arizona with 4:16 remaining in the half. It was his ninth reception and second touchdown of the game. He finished the contest with 81 receiving yards in just one-plus quarters of play.

London has been a bright spot on USC’s team this year. Prior to Saturday’s game, he ranked second in the FBS and first among Power 5 receivers with 79 receptions and 1,003 receiving yards, in just seven games. After his exit from Saturday’s game, he has 88 catches for 1,084 yards and seven scores. To compare, former Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith had 72 receptions for 1,074 yards and 12 touchdowns after eight games in his 2020 Heisman Trophy-winning campaign.

Depending on how long London is out, he may consider forgoing the remainder of his collegiate career to prepare for the NFL. The 6-5, 210-pound junior is projected as the No. 26 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft per Sporting News’ latest mock draft.
