Kareem Hunt, Antonio Gibson, Kadarius Toney, and T.Y. Hilton all exited last week’s matchups early due to various ailments and will need to be monitored as we progress toward Week 7. Considering all of these players were dealing with health issues leading up to their last games, it’s a bit worrisome they couldn’t last 60 minutes. Get the latest injury updates prior to your fantasy waiver pickups, as guys like Hunt and Gibson would open the door for their handcuffs to be top adds.
WEEK 7 WAIVER WIRE: Top pickups
Kareem Hunt injury update
UPDATE: Hunt is likely headed to IR and could miss up to six weeks with his calf injury. D’Ernest Johnson should be rostered and it’s worth picking up Demetric Felton in deep leagues.
Hunt came into Week 6 with a “Q” tag due to his wrist and knee, but it was a calf injury that knocked him out of the game vs. Arizona. Since it’s early in the week, we’ll have to wait on the results of his MRI. However, the initial thought is it’s nothing too serious. Still, he could be set to miss a few games, so Hunt fantasy owners should start looking ahead into our best waiver pickups for Week 7. D’Ernest Johnson is the guy directly behind Hunt, but obviously, his value will depend on Hunt and Nick Chubb’s health. Chubb (calf) was scratched for Week 6.
In a scenario where Chubb plays and Hunt doesn’t, Johnson should get some work, but it’s unlikely to be what Hunt’s typical workload has been this year. Demetric Felton could also be involved, especially in the receiving game. For now, we don’t have Hunt in our rankings, but we put Johnson as the RB32 in standard and RB30 in PPR. Cleveland plays Denver on Thursday Night Football, so we expect Hunt to be out, though nothing is official yet,
Antonio Gibson injury update
Gibson has been dealing with a shin injury for several weeks now and has often been listed as “questionable.” In Week 6, the wear and tear eventually got to him, and he exited the game a few times before ultimately being held out when the score against the Chiefs was mostly out of hand. His Week 7 status is unknown, but he’ll likely be “questionable” this week and there’s a real chance he misses the contest against the Packers. In that case, J.D. McKissic would be in line for a ton of work, and Jaret Patterson would also get a handful of carries.
For now, we’re expecting Gibson to play and ranking him as the RB8 in PPR leagues and RB7 in standard leagues. Green Bay has given up four touchdowns to running backs over the past two weeks, and Gibson should be able to take advantage as his workload has generally progressed.
Kadarius Toney injury update
Toney (ankle) left was quickly ruled out after leaving his Week 6 game on the first drive. Prior to his exit, he grabbed three-of-three targets for 36 yards and looked to be geared up for another strong performance. He’d been “questionable” heading into the matchup and apparently aggravated the injury. Not much is known about his status, so we’ll have to stay tuned.
It appears he will be heavily targeted no matter the opponent, at least while the Giants have some other WR issues, so we rank him as our WR29 in PPR and WR31 in standard leagues this week. He’ll take on the Panthers in Week 7 (if healthy), and they’ve looked unimpressive on defense over the past three contests after a hot start to the season. Darius Slayton (hamstring), and Kenny Golladay (knee) could return this week, so we’ll have to monitor all of those guys, too, as we try to figure out how targets will be divvied up.
T.Y. Hilton injury update
Hilton (quad) looked great in his return from IR with a neck injury but left the game in the fourth quarter. The team reportedly didn’t seem too concerned about his injury, and with the Colts’ up big on the Texans, it seems they were just being cautious with Hilton. That said, we won’t be too concerned either, but we’ll see what news comes out later in the week.
