Mark Ingram (knee) is “questionable” heading into Week 12’s Thursday Night Football showdown against the Bills, and although he might not be a fantasy stud at this point in his career, Alvin Kamara’s inactivity has put Ingram on the start-or-sit bubble. We don’t know the extent of Ingram’s injury, but he figures to be a game-time decision. Fantasy start ’em, sit ’em decisions surrounding Ingram and Toney Jones Jr. hang in the balance while we wait for the latest injury updates throughout the day on Thanksgiving.
We’ll continue to update this article with news on Ingram up until the official active/inactive report comes out on Thursday. For all the latest fantasy updates, follow us on Twitter @SN_Fantasy.
Is Mark Ingram playing on Thursday?
Ingram got in a limited practice on Wednesday after missing practice on Tuesday, and he’s officially a game-time decision heading into Thursday night. Alvin Kamara is slated to miss a third straight game, so Ingram would remain the primary back for New Orleans if he plays. Tony Jones Jr. will serve as the No. 2 RB.
If Ingram plays, it’s going to be a tough day ahead for the 31-year-old veteran. Jonathan Taylor put up 50 points against them the Bills, but let’s not overreact here. We can’t let one performance by an elite back dictate how we feel about a matchup. The Bills are still considered one of the fiercest matchups for ball-carriers, and it’s not breaking any news to say Ingram is not Taylor. Despite Taylor going for 50-plus points and Derrick Henry going for 30-plus points against the Bills, they’re still inside the top-eight strongest defenses in FPPG allowed.
If Ingram can’t play, Jones Jr. will obviously find himself in the same situation. For all we know, Jones Jr. is a better ball-carrier at this point in Ingram’s career, but neither should be viewed as a must-start option. In Jones’ case, we all want to play the guy we just acquired off waivers, but this is not the place to do it. That’s not to say you shouldn’t continue to stash him for later in the year,
Ultimately, we know many fantasy owners are forced to play just about any “starting” running back, so of course, there are situations where they’ll be in lineups. We rank Ingram just outside the top-24 RBs, and Jones Jr. will likely be in that territory if he’s the starter via the absence of Ingram.
