Days after the dual ejection of Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris in Denver, the NBA witnessed another one. This one, not far from the altitudes of Ball Arena, occurred in Salt Lake City in a game between the Utah Jazz and the Indiana Pacers.
This dispute actually one-upped the previous squabble with more than just the two players getting ejected. Here’s a look at what went down.
The big-man scuffle
With 4:01 left to play in the game, and the Pacers up 102-92, Myles Turner – the league’s leader in blocks – rejected a shot attempt by Rudy Gobert.
After the shot, while the rest of the eight players ran up the other end, Turner and Gobert fell to the ground after their legs got tangled. As they went down, both had something to appeal to the referees about. Gobert was possibly asking for a foul on the shot while Turner didn’t seem to be pleased with Gobert’s legs positioned to trip him.
Once they both got up, Turner gave Gobert a shove and one thing led to another.
Once the whistles were blown, players came rushing from the other end to join a scrum, which already included team officials and referees, and was attempting to separate Turner and Gobert.
Although Tuner and Gobert were separated pretty quick, something had Donovan Mitchell hot and he was seen jawing at the Pacers bench.
While the ejections for Turner and Gobert were expected, as a consequence of the other players getting involved, two Jazz players in Mitchell and Joe Ingles also got ejected.
This is the third career ejection for Gobert and the first since the 2019-20 season while it’s the first career ejection for Turner. Meanwhile, for both Ingles and Mitchell, it’s the second career ejection.
The Pacers, coming off a 101-98 loss to a heavily shorthanded Nuggets, came away with the road win in Salt Lake City.
For Indiana, Malcolm Brogdon led the way with 30 points, nine rebounds and four assists. With this victory, the team improved to a 5-8 record having started 1-6.
On the other hand, for the hosts, Donovan Mitchell top scored with 26 points to go along with four assists and three steals.
