Galaxy S24’s language translation feature works with WhatsApp

Samsung recently introduced a range of AI-powered features for the Galaxy S24 series, leveraging powerful NPUs within the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processors. Among these features is real-time language translation during voice calls and messages. While Samsung initially demonstrated language translation for text messages within the built-in Messages app, it has now been observed that this functionality extends to third-party messaging apps such as WhatsApp.

The real-time language translation feature from the Galaxy AI suite seems to be operational on WhatsApp, as evidenced by translations between Korean and English in messages. The implementation of live language translation on WhatsApp for the Galaxy S24 raises questions about whether this feature is exclusive to the built-in messaging app or if it extends to other messaging applications.

Samsung emphasized that real-time language translation can occur on-device without requiring an active internet connection. The speed of language processing showcased during the Galaxy Unpacked event indicates efficient performance. Comparable features have been available on Pixel smartphones for the past year, and the integration of such capabilities could extend to other devices equipped with powerful NPUs.

While Samsung has confirmed that some AI-powered features will be introduced to existing high-end Galaxy smartphones in the first half of the year, specific details about which features will be included in the One UI 6.1 update remain undisclosed. The expansion of AI capabilities, including real-time language translation, enhances the user experience and positions Samsung’s devices at the forefront of technological innovation.
