Rudy Giuliani Says He Has Been 'Destroyed'

Rudy Giuliani expressed dismay over the jury’s decision to award $148 million in damages to Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, whom he had defamed. Giuliani, former lawyer to Donald Trump, made false claims about the election workers, and the jury ordered him to pay $20 million each for intentional infliction of emotional distress, $16 to $17 million each in damages, and an additional $75 million in punitive damages. Giuliani, now facing bankruptcy, stated on Newsmax that the $148 million figure has “destroyed” him financially. He has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to protect himself and maintain transparency under the supervision of the bankruptcy court.

Giuliani’s bankruptcy filing lists his assets between $1 million and $10 million, with liabilities ranging from $100 million to $500 million, along with $989,918 in taxes owed to the government. One of Giuliani’s attorneys, Heath Berger, mentioned that Chapter 11 would allow Giuliani the chance to pursue an appeal and ensure fair treatment of all creditors. The filing also includes Hunter Biden as a creditor, categorized under “lawsuit,” without specifying the reason. The bankruptcy proceedings come after U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell ruled for an immediate start to the payment process, citing concerns that Giuliani might attempt to conceal or dissipate his assets.

Giuliani, unapologetic after the jury’s decision, stated that he did not “regret a damn thing.” While acknowledging the deplorable treatment Freeman and Moss endured due to his false claims, Giuliani denied any involvement in the threats against them. Freeman expressed ongoing concern for her safety, given the false accusations made during the 2020 presidential election.
